Barcelona likely to make major changes

Soccer Betting Lines

05/01/2008 - Barcelona, Spain (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Barcelona Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain has admitted the club's failure to secure silverware for a second successive season will lead to major changes in the summer.

Coach Frank Rijkaard's position is believed to be under serious threat, while up to eight players - including Ronaldinho, Deco, Lilian Thuram, Gianluca Zambrotta and Rafael Marquez - could be moved on according to reports.

Barcelona will lose out in the race for the La Liga title for the second successive year to Real Madrid and were knocked out of the Champions League at the semifinal stage by Manchester United.

"The lack of performances obliges us to make changes," admitted Begiristain. "Now is the moment of analysis and we will take the decisions at the end of the season.

"At the start of the season nobody doubted the quality of the team, but it is true that things have not gone well. Not winning any titles has been a disappointment considering the names that we have."
